DN HONO[RI-VS PF AVG], pearl-diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right / [VICTORIA] AVGG, Victory walking left, holding wreath and palm, mintmark RM in exergue. 11mm, 1.61 grams. BMC Vandals, p. 17, 6 (the design is based on RIC X 1357, but made in Vandalic style)

Vandalic imitations of the small bronze coins of Honorius were produced in North Africa during the Vandal Kingdom, probably in the late 5th century. Based on official late Roman AE4 issues, these crude local copies often feature highly simplified portraits and blundered or degenerate legends, reflecting their unofficial manufacture. The type catalogued as BMC Vandals, p. 17, no. 6 is among the better-known examples, illustrating how Roman coin designs continued to circulate and be imitated under Vandal rule after the decline of direct imperial authority in the western Mediterranean.
