Delhi Sultanate (1193-1526)

The Delhi Sultanate was an Islamic empire based in Delhi that stretched over large parts of the Indian subcontinent for over three hundred years. The large and powerful Sultanate was defeated and conquered by the Moghul Babur, establishing the Moghul Empire in India in 1526.

The Delhi Sultans struck copious gold, silver, billon and bronze coinage - their large silver tankas were a prototype for the later rupees.
