Falcon feeding, within a decorated border // Zarb Amid (Amid mint, modern-day Diyarbakır, Turkey). 23mm, 8.51 grams. Zeno 390598.

This sort of anonymous bronze coins were minted in modern Turkey and further east into Central Asia. This type from Amid probably belongs to the Aq-Qoyunlu dynasty or the early Ottoman period. It is a large coin, double the weight of an anonymous mangir. This type seems to be completely unpublished.

Aq Qoyunlu (also spelled Ak Koyunlu) was a powerful Sunni Oghuz Turkic tribal confederation that ruled parts of eastern Anatolia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, and Iran from 1378 to 1508. Often referred to as the "White Sheep" Turkomans, they emerged from the decline of Mongol authority in the region. They were eventually defeated by the Ottomans and the Safavids.
