Crude bull right within a dotted border / Illegible imitative Arabic legend within three or four lines. 14mm, 2.22 grams. Probably imitating Kurraman mint. Tye -.
Rare.
A very interesting jital, unpublished in Tye or other standard references. Most of them are made of an inferior metal - probably a mix of tin and lead. The metal has chipped over time and most of these coins are found damaged in one way or another. Intact high quality coins are extremely rare. Its design is derived from the jitals of Kurraman, originally struck under the Ghurid rulers Muʿizz al-Dīn Muhammad bin Sām and Taj al-Dīn Yildiz, and later by Muhammad Khwarezmshah (the imitative jitals are also found in hoards along with official coins of those rulers from Kurraman). On this imitative issue, however, the inscription is so crudely executed that it is impossible to identify which specific type it was meant to imitate. Coins of this variety are known from a single hoard dispersed on the numismatic market in the early 2010s. They still appear occasionally, but remain quite rare.
