Transnistria issued the world's first, and currently only, circulating plastic coins in August 2014, featuring 1, 3, 5, and 10-ruble denominations. Developed by Russia's Goznak mint, these "plamet" (plastic metal) coins are durable, colorful, and shaped differently to prevent counterfeiting. They function as legal tender within the unrecognized state.
