Mikhail Fyodorovich Romanov (1613–1645) was the first tsar of the Romanov dynasty, elected to the Russian throne in 1613 following the political turmoil of the Time of Troubles. His reign brought greater stability to Russia after years of civil war and foreign intervention, while gradually restoring the economy and central government. Much of the administration was initially influenced by his father, Patriarch Filaret. Mikhail died in 1645 and was succeeded by his son, Alexei Mikhailovich.
