Bullet money, or pod duang, was a distinctive form of currency used in Thailand (then Siam) from the 13th century until the early 20th century. Shaped like small silver or gold "bullets" or bars bent into a rounded form, each piece bore official marks or stamps to certify its authenticity and weight. These markings included symbols of reigning monarchs, religious motifs, or state seals. Bullet money came in various denominations, from tiny fractional units to large pieces used for significant transactions. Its unique form was practical for weighing and handling but was eventually phased out in the early 1900s under King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), as Thailand modernized its monetary system in line with Western-style flat coinage.
