“Specimen” banknotes are specially marked examples printed for reference, display, and export rather than everyday circulation. They are typically stamped or overprinted with the word “SPECIMEN” and were used for banking archives, foreign trade exhibitions, and collectors’ markets abroad. These notes are not legal tender inside North Korea but are produced in small quantities, making them historically interesting and highly collectible.
