Small silver dirham with Guyuk's tamgha. Extremely rare and poorly understand type. These are usually very poorly preserved, flatly struck and damaged. High quality examples like this one are particularly rare.

Güyük Khan (c. 1206–1248) was the third Great Khan of the Mongol Empire and eldest son of Ögedei Khan and thus a grandson of Genghis Khan. Elected in 1246 after a long regency dispute, he sought to reassert central authority over the Mongol domains, challenging the semi-independent rule of Batu Khan in the west. His short reign focused on consolidating power, strengthening ties with some Christian rulers, and continuing campaigns in the Middle East. Güyük died suddenly in 1248 while preparing for a confrontation with Batu, ending his brief and contentious rule.
