Constantine II (337–340 CE) was the eldest surviving son of Constantine the Great and became emperor jointly with his brothers Constans and Constantius II following their father’s death in 337. He ruled primarily Gaul, Britain and Spain, but disputes over territory led him to invade Constans’ domains in Italy in 340. Constantine was defeated and killed near Aquileia, ending his brief reign.
