High grade, pretty much as cast, rare. These were struck with a hexagonal die on a cast round flan. It was done on a rough surface, resulting in rough texture for the reverse.

These coins was issued by Pangeran Pringgabaya (r. 1691–1710) during Jambi's period of division. Pringgabaya was the youngest son of Sultan Ingalaga (r. 1679–89). When the Jambi throne passed on to Ingalaga's eldest son Kiai Geḍé (r. 1687–1719), Pringgabaya established a breakaway court some time before 1691 elsewhere (his fragment of Jambi is commonly known as "Hulu" or "Upper" Jambi. Pringgabaya was able to obtain patronage from the highly esteemed Pagaruyung court of Minangkabau who bestowed upon him the title ‘Sri Maharaja Batu Johan Pahlawan Syah’. His coins used the abbreviated form of his Pagaruyung title.

The Jambi Sultanate was a powerful Malay state located in what is now central Sumatra, Indonesia, flourishing from around the 15th century until the early 20th century. Situated along the Batanghari River, Jambi became a key player in regional trade, especially in pepper, gold, and forest products, linking the interior of Sumatra with international markets.
