al-Malik al-Mu'azzam // Muhammad bin Hassan. 15mm, 3.08 grams. Unknown mint. Tye 350.
Nasir Qarlugh ruled the Qarlughid dynasty from 1249 to 1259 in the region between the Ghaznavid legacy cities and the western Punjab, during a time of Mongol and Delhi Sultanate expansion. Nasir Qarlugh skillfully maintained a delicate balance between the Mongol Ilkhanate to the west and the Delhi Sultanate to the east, navigating shifting allegiances to preserve his autonomy. His court issued coins that imitated both Islamic and local traditions, reflecting the multicultural nature of his realm. His rule ended when the Qarlughid territories were absorbed by neighboring powers, signaling the demise of this small yet strategically significant dynasty.
