Rare dated AR 2-dinars, Tamerlane (1370-1405) w/overlord Suyurgharmish, Shabankarah, Timurids

Very rare dated type. With some mint luster, pretty much as struck (these were very crudely made).

A very nice example of a coin of one of the cruelest and infamous rulers of all times!

Timur (Tamerlane), the Turco-Mongol conqueror and founder of the Timurid Empire, initially ruled in the name of a puppet Chagatai Khan, Sultan Suyurghatmish, during the early phase of his rise to power in the late 14th century. After consolidating control over Transoxiana (modern Uzbekistan and surrounding regions), Timur maintained the appearance of legitimacy by installing Suyurghatmish as a nominal ruler from 1370 to 1388, drawing authority from the Mongol lineage of Genghis Khan through the Chagatai line. Though Timur held actual power as amir, this arrangement allowed him to solidify support among Mongol and Turkic elites who valued Chinggisid legitimacy. Suyurghatmish played no real political role and was eventually removed and likely executed when Timur no longer needed the façade. This use of puppet khans underscored Timur’s strategic pragmatism in navigating the political landscape of post-Mongol Central Asia.
