Cilician Armenia (1080–1375) was a medieval Armenian state established on the Mediterranean coast of southeastern Anatolia by Armenian refugees fleeing Seljuk invasions. Initially a principality, it became a kingdom in 1198 under Leo I and developed close political, commercial, and military ties with the European Crusader states. The kingdom prospered through Mediterranean trade and became an important center of Armenian culture and Christianity. Weakened by internal conflicts and repeated invasions, Cilician Armenia was finally conquered by the Egyptian Mamluks in 1375.
