Blank // Monogram of Odovacer in wreath. 9mm, 0.47 grams. Rome mint. Metlich.- - MEC.1/64 - RIC.3502 - LRBC.588

This is the extremely rare type of Odovacer's monogram, with only a few known examples.

Odoacer (r. 476–493 CE) was a Germanic military leader who deposed the last Western Roman emperor, Romulus Augustulus, in 476 CE. Rather than appointing a new emperor, he ruled Italy as king while nominally acknowledging the authority of the Eastern emperor in Constantinople. His reign marked the traditional end of the Western Roman Empire. Odoacer was eventually defeated and killed by Theodoric the Great, who then established Ostrogothic rule in Italy.
