Before the adoption of struck coinage in Celtic lands, various forms of proto-currency were in use, including Celtic ring money - made of gold, silver, or bronze - as well as arrowhead money and bell money. These objects circulated widely across Celtic regions of the Danube basin, Gaul (France), Britain, and Ireland.
Some ring forms developed into remarkably elaborate designs, such as Gallic “wheel money,” star-shaped rings, and interlinked rings. Today, these pieces are highly appealing to collectors, valued not only for their historical significance but also for their aesthetic qualities, as many can be worn as pendants or finger rings.
