An attractive example of the CT22/152 contemporary counterfeit $10 note of 1861, one of the more distinctive Confederate counterfeit types. The central vignette depicts a mourning Native American family gathered around a grave, giving the issue its familiar “Indian Family” name. This counterfeit belongs to the fascinating series associated with Philadelphia counterfeiter Samuel C. Upham, whose reproductions of Confederate currency became widely known during the Civil War. A nice example in Fine condition, showing normal circulation wear and folding marks visible on the reverse, with some repairs at the top center. An appealing and historic Civil War-era counterfeit with an unusually evocative design.
