A pleasing example of the Confederate $10 note of September 2, 1861, Criswell Type T-30 (Criswell #238), First Series. The note features a large central vignette of a steam locomotive pulling passenger cars, reflecting the importance of the rapidly expanding American railroad system, with a portrait of R. M. T. Hunter, Confederate Secretary of State, at lower left. Hand-signed and individually numbered, these notes were issued during the first year of the Civil War. This First Series example survives in a nice Fine condition, with even circulation wear, good overall appearance, and no significant problems. An attractive, honest example of this popular early Confederate type.
