The 1970 Soviet commemorative 1-ruble coin was issued to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Lenin (1870–1924). Its obverse features a large profile portrait of Lenin with the dates 1870–1970, while the reverse bears the Soviet state emblem and denomination; struck in a copper-nickel alloy, it was one of the USSR’s most widely distributed commemorative coins.
