Menander I (c. 165–130 BCE) was one of the most powerful and celebrated Indo-Greek kings, ruling a large kingdom centred on the Punjab and extending into northwestern India. Known in Buddhist tradition as Milinda, he is the protagonist of the Milindapañha, which records his philosophical discussions with the monk Nāgasena. His abundant bilingual Greek-Kharoṣṭhī coinage, commonly depicting Athena Alkidemos, became highly influential on subsequent Indo-Greek issues.
