Bronze kesarah of Mohamed Shah (1484-1487, 1499-1505, 1514-1515, 1530-1537), Kashmir Sultanate, India

Al-Sultan / Al-Azam / Mohamed Shah, with a horizontal line with a knot above Mohamed's name // Zarb Kashmir. 19mm, 5.26 grams. "The coins of the Indian Sultanates" K46.

Muhammad Shah of Kashmir (1484–1487, 1499–1505, 1514–1515, 1530–1537) was a sultan of the Shah Mir dynasty whose extraordinarily fragmented reign reflected the intense political instability of late medieval Kashmir. Repeatedly deposed and restored amid struggles among powerful nobles and rival factions, he occupied the throne on four separate occasions. His long political career illustrates the weakening of royal authority that eventually contributed to the decline of the Shah Mir dynasty.
