Domitian (51-96 CE) was the last emperor of the Flavian dynasty, ruling from 81 to 96 CE. Younger son of Vespasian and brother of Titus, he came to power after Titus’s death and sought to strengthen imperial authority through strict administration, moral legislation, and heavy control over the Senate. Domitian reshaped Rome with major building projects, fortified the frontiers, and achieved military successes in Germany and against Dacian incursions. His autocratic style, financial policies, and growing suspicion of conspiracies led to tensions with senators and court officials. He was assassinated in 96 CE in a palace plot, after which the Senate condemned his memory (damnatio memoriae).
