Ghiyath al-Din Tughluq (r. 1320–1325) was the founder of the Tughluq dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate. Of probable Turko-Mongol and Jat ancestry, he rose through military ranks under the Khalji rulers and seized power in 1320 after defeating Khusrau Khan. His reign was relatively brief but marked by consolidation and discipline. He died in 1325 under controversial circumstances - traditionally said to have been killed when a pavilion collapsed, possibly in a plot involving his son and successor, Muhammad bin Tughluq.
