Claudius II Gothicus (r. 268–270 CE) was a Roman emperor who ruled during the turbulent Crisis of the Third Century. A distinguished military commander, he achieved a decisive victory over the Goths at the Battle of Naissus, earning the honorary title Gothicus. He also defeated the Alamanni and strengthened the empire's frontiers, helping to reverse years of military decline. Claudius died of plague in 270 CE before he could complete the restoration of imperial stability, but he is remembered as one of the most capable soldier-emperors of the late Roman Empire.
