Claudius II Gothicus (r. 268–270 CE) was a Roman emperor who ruled during the turbulent Crisis of the Third Century. A capable military commander, he won a major victory over the Goths at the Battle of Naissus, earning the honorific title Gothicus. His successes helped stabilize the empire during a period of invasions and internal unrest. Claudius died of plague in 270 CE before he could fully restore imperial unity, but he was remembered as one of the most effective soldier-emperors of the era.
