Zeno (r. 474–475, 476–491 CE) was an Eastern Roman emperor during a turbulent period marked by internal revolts and the final collapse of the Western Roman Empire. Of Isaurian origin, his rule was initially challenged by usurpations, but he eventually secured his position and governed from Constantinople. During his reign, the last Western emperor was deposed in 476 CE, traditionally marking the end of the Western Roman Empire. Zeno also issued the Henotikon, an attempt to reconcile theological divisions within Christianity, though it failed to fully resolve doctrinal disputes.
