Valentinian II was Roman emperor from 375 to 392 CE, ascending the throne as a child after the death of his father, Valentinian I. For much of his reign, real power was exercised by generals and senior officials, particularly Arbogast. Valentinian ruled the Western Roman Empire during a period of political instability and conflict with usurpers. In 392, he was found dead under suspicious circumstances at the age of 21, an event often linked to tensions with Arbogast. His death paved the way for the usurpation of Eugenius and the eventual reunification of the empire under Theodosius I.
