IVLIA AVGVSTA, draped bust right / HILARITAS, Hilaritas standing left, with long palm branch and cornucopiae. 14mmx17mm, 2.50 grams. RIC 556; Sear 6586 var.

"Limes" coins (for "border" in Latin) were made around the Danubian borders of the Roman Empire. They were struck or cast in tin, and looked very different from the normal coins. It is thought they were made as sort of tokens because of the coin shortage. They were probably redeemed for proper silver coins once the silver coins were available.
