This denomination is variously given the name "massa", "kahavanu" or "kasu", among others.

Like the coins of the Kingdom of Kashmir, this coin of the Cholas from the South of India follows a prototype of late Kushan coins, with a sitting figure on one side and a standing one on the other, both drawn in lines. This type was copied in Ceylon were it became known as the "Ceylon-man" or "Octopus-Man" type.
