In the immediate aftermath of the Russian Revolution, there were many different issues of banknotes before a unified currency was introduced in the early 1920’s. These 10,000 rouble notes dated 1919 were issued in South Russia by the White Army under General Wrangel.

Baron Pyotr Nikolayevich Wrangel, also known by his nickname the Black Baron, was a Russian officer of Baltic German origin in the Imperial Russian Army. During the later stages of the Russian Civil War, he was commanding general of the anti-Bolshevik White Army in Southern Russia. After his side lost the war in 1920, he left Russia. He was assassinated in Brussels in 1928 by a Soviet agent.
