Nasir al-Din Nusrat Shah was a prominent ruler of the Hussain Shahi dynasty, succeeding his father Alauddin Husain Shah. Reigning from 1519 to about 1531–1533, he maintained Bengal’s political strength and cultural prosperity, continuing his father’s policies of tolerance and patronage of art and literature. His rule saw diplomatic contact with the early Mughal Empire under Babur, as Bengal remained an important independent power in eastern India. Nusrat Shah also issued a large number of coins and supported religious and architectural projects. After his death, the stability of the sultanate began to weaken, contributing to its eventual decline in the face of Afghan and Mughal expansion.
