Jalal Shah of Bengal was a short-lived ruler of the Bengal Sultanate, reigning from 1560 to 1563 during a period of political instability and dynastic decline. Likely associated with the later Husain Shahi or a successor faction, his rule came amid internal conflicts and the weakening authority of the Bengal sultans. Jalal Shah’s brief reign reflects the fragmentation of power in Bengal just prior to the expansion of the Mughal Empire under Akbar, which would soon absorb the region. Little detailed historical record survives about his policies or achievements, underscoring the turbulent nature of Bengal’s final years of independence.
