Rare gold fanam, unknown issue from Chitradurga, ca.1565-1779 AD, Southern India (Herrli #1.05.01-1.05.10) 

The common Vira Raya stylized motiff, with a crude Nagari letter derived / Stylized boar with a stylized "pra" above. 8mm, 0.38 grams. Type 1 in Herrli. 1.03.

This issue was probably produced near Chitradurga by a local dynast or at a minor mint. Type 1 is found (according to Herrli) to the west of Chitradurga. It is not known who issued these coins.
