Sussala (r. 1112–1120 CE) was a ruler of the Lohara dynasty of Kashmir, known for his struggle to restore order after decades of political chaos. He came to power amid constant rebellion by powerful nobles (the Dāmaras) and widespread instability. Despite repeated military campaigns and brief successes in reasserting royal authority, Sussala’s reign was dominated by civil war, shifting loyalties, and financial strain. He was eventually overthrown and killed in 1120, marking another failed attempt to stabilize Kashmir during the dynasty’s terminal decline.
