Rare huge 10-cash w/wide rims, Qayshan Gülük (1308-1311), Mongol Yuan dynasty, China

Four Phgas-pa characters Da Yuan Tong Bao / Blank. 42mm, 24.36 grams. Mitchiner WOI 1506 var; Schjöth #1099 (large rims) Hartill 19.45-19.46 var (large rims).

Very large coin with wide outer and inner rims. Listed in Hartill as 19.45, but with a somewhat different calligraphy. It might be a sort of a transitional issue between the huge H#19.45 and H#19.46 with narrow rims. With a casting defect (cast at an angle, so bent), with original patina and encrustations, 100% authentic. Very rare and interesting.

In 1269, Khubilai Khan commissioned a Tibetan Lama called Matidhvaja Sribhadra to create a new Mongolian script, based on the Tibetan alphabet and thus of Indian (Brahmi script) origin. Some Yuan coins, like this piece, carry an inscription in Phgas-Pa only. The script came into disuse by 1350 and was never used after that. The descendants of Ghengiz Khan and Kublai Khan ruled China as members of the Yuan Dynasty and were also generally acknowledged as Great Khans of the Mongols among the various descendands of Ghengiz Khan all over their domains. This coin is unconditionally guaranteed to be authentic
