Reclining bull left, SRI SAMANTA DEVA in Nagari // Arabic legend: 'adil / al-Sultan/al-mua'zam/ abu'l muzaffar/ Ibrahim. 14mm, 3.23 grams. Tye 103.

Made of good silver billon, high silver content. These jitals from Lahore had the same weight as the more common Ghaznavid dirhams from Ghazna and elsewhere, but took the same of Samantadeva jitals, more familiar to the people living around Lahore.

Ibrahim of Ghazna reigned as Sultan of the Ghaznavid Empire from 1059 to 1099, overseeing a period of relative stability and consolidation after years of internal strife. A son of Sultan Masʿud I, he came to power after being freed from prison during a succession crisis and gradually restored order within the state. Ibrahim maintained peaceful relations with the Seljuks, marrying his daughter to the Seljuk Sultan Malik Shah, and focused on strengthening the empire's eastern domains. His long reign saw renewed cultural patronage and administrative reforms, and under his rule, the Ghaznavid dynasty experienced a final period of prosperity before its eventual decline in the early 12th century.
