Egypt lacked native coinage, so their earliest coinage was based on the Athenian tetradrachm which was the standard coin all across the Mediterranean. Minted before Alexander's conquest, probably dates to the first half of the 4th century BC, though it cannot be attributed to a particular pharaoh. Hard encrustations on the owl's face, some roughness, cleaning marks, scrape on obverse, two test cuts and one punch on reverse.

ex-CNG; From the AVARAE Collection, purchased from Aegean Numismatics (inv. 010954).
