Nuh ibn Asad (d. 842 CE) was an early member of the Samanid family and the son of Asad ibn Saman, the dynasty’s founder. Appointed by the Abbasid caliph al-Ma'mun as governor of Samarkand in the early 9th century, Nuh played a key role in consolidating Samanid authority in Transoxiana during a period of Abbasid decentralization. He strengthened local administration, supported Sunni Islam, and helped lay the political foundations that later allowed his relatives to build a powerful Samanid Kingdom.
