AE cash, early issue of ruler Oghitmish, c.730-66 CE, Turgesh Confederation, Semirechye, Sogdiana, Central Asia

Trident tamgha and Sogdian legend: wg'tmys xwbw pny ("Coin of the Ruler Oghitmish") // Sogdian legend: bgy twrkys x'g'n pny ("Coin of the Master, Türgesh Khagan". 20mm, 2.05 grams. Kamyshev 39; cf.Zeno 47154.

This is the earlier large type of this ruler. Full clear inscription, a very nice example.

This type of coins was previously considered to an anonymous issue by the Tukhus tribe, though now the attribution is considered to be incorrect. The obverse legend has been re-read as wg'tmys xwbw pny ("Coin of the Ruler Oghitmish") or   wn'ntm'x xwβw ( "Lord Wanāndmāx"), with wn'ntm'x having an advantage of being well attested Sogdian name meaning "victorious moon". While the obverse inscription gives the name of the local ruler, the reverse inscription references the overlord Khagan of the Turghesh confederation, though it does not name him.
