Alexander Severus (208–235 AD) was the last emperor of the Severan dynasty and ruled the Roman Empire from 222 to 235 AD. He became emperor as a teenager after the assassination of his cousin Elagabalus and was heavily influenced by his mother, Julia Mamaea. Alexander Severus was known for his relatively moderate and reform-minded rule, promoting legal fairness and financial restraint. He faced growing military threats from the newly established Sasanian Persian Empire and from Germanic tribes along the Rhine frontier. His attempts to avoid costly warfare and negotiate with enemies angered the Roman army, and in 235 he and his mother were murdered by mutinous troops led by Maximinus Thrax. His death marked the beginning of the Crisis of the Third Century, a long period of instability and civil war in the Roman Empire.
