Scarce enigmatic "1477-six-pointed star" huge silver rupee of Islam Shah (1545-1552), mintless type from Bengal, Delhi Sultanate, India (D-980)

Legends on both sides: Shahada, names of the four Caliphs in the margins / Al-Sultan bin al-sultan jala al-dunya wa'l din abu'l muzaffae Islam shah bin Sher Shah sultan khallada allah mulkahu within a square, "1477" in arabic numbers in the top obverse margin (the meaning is unknown), followed by a star of David / Inscriptions. Mintless type, dated to 954 AH = 1547 AD. Very large, 30.5mm in diameter, 10.90 grams. "The coins of the Indian Sultanates" D-980, Rajgor 1791, Wright 1318-1325.

Islam Shah was the Suri sultan of Delhi, but his power extended to Bengal, where coins in his name were issued throughout his reign. The meaning of the number "1477" followed by a star of David (six-pointed star) is unknown. This coin is from the Bengal provincial issue. Enigmatic and unusual issue.
