Two large Chinese characters Wu Zhu (=5 zhus) with an atypical squarish "zhu" / Blank, inside and outside rims, with the corners of the inner rim radiating out. 26mm, 2.55 grams. Hartill #10.2; Gratzer/Fishman "One thousand years of Wu Zhu coinage" #B4.14. SKU T2225-48432
This particular type is easily identified by the presence of four short radiate extensions from the inner rim on the reverse and large characters on obverse. They can be much lighter than the earlier Wu Zhus, with some weighing under two grams. The coins of this type are found in the grave sites from the late period of Emperor Guangwu reign, Ming Di and early period of Zhang Di™s reign, allowing us to date this coinage roughly to circa AD 50-80.
This coin is unconditionally guaranteed to be authentic.
