This type is given by Mitchiner (ACW #4019) to the period of the Ten Sons of Kalasoka (c.368-346 BC). It is a large and rare type (most early coins of the pre-Nanda series IV are rare). It is overstruck on a rare series II coin.

The Nanda Empire originated from the kingdom of Magadha in Ancient India during the 5th and 4th centuries BC.
