Rare type - Arab-Byzantine follis, c.635-675, Tabariyya mint, Ummayad Caliphate. Copying follis of Heraclius from the mint in Cyprus. Three Imperial figures // M (for "40 nummi"), retrograde ANN left, retrograde "gamma" below M, P above (degraded chi-rho), +/u/i right, mintmark below. 25mm, 3.12 grams. These coins are the earliest coins of the first Islamic Caliphate - after conquering the Byzantine Middle East, they issued coins in the corrupted style of Byzantine folli (especially of Constans II). These circulates for about a few decades, until the end of the 7th century.
