The gold on these coins is fairly debased, around 14-16 karats. This type was minted by the uncertain Soutehrn Indian rulers, possibly in the name of Rangaraya III of Vijayanagar (1642-1672). The English and the Dutch struck the imitations of these coins slightly later.
