This denomination is variously given the name "massa", "kahavanu" or "kasu", among others.

This coin was issued under Rajaraja Chola I, a famous Emperor of the Chola dynasty from 985-1014 AD, who controlled parts of the southern India and Sri Lanka. The coin is often called "Octopus Man" because of it's appearance of tentacles.
