Coiled decoration surrounded by pseudo-arabic inscription, very crude Cyrillic partial ПЕЧАТЬ КИАZЯ ВЕЛНКН ("Coin of Great Duke") // Coiled decoration with a pseudo-arabic legend, within a triple border. 22mmx15mm, 0.90 grams. Suzdal mint, struck early 1400s. Guletsky/Petrunin #1575.

The Nizhegorod-Suzdal coins, struck under Moscow administration (Nizhegorod-Suzdal was annexed in the early 1390s) imitated the dangs of the Golden Horde. They were large and very crude, most poorly struck and with a nearly unrecognizable design. This is a nice and toned example from an old collection, ex-Gorny and Mosch.
