Struck circa AH 80-89 (AD 699-708). Beginning of Kalima in three lines / Continuation of Kalima around helmeted head right. Uncertain North African or Spanish mint. 15mm, 1.83 grams. Walker p. 222, Th. 12; Album C122.
Superb quality for this type and very rare, espeicially this nice. Although this type is sometimes attributed to Spain, Album (p. 39) notes that some specimens bear the mint name Tanja (Tangiers) at the end of the Arabic legend. However, it seems to be found mostly in Spain (like this coin), so the final attribution of this type is not yet established.
