Their rulers grew wealthy from the incense and spice trade and maintained close commercial ties with the Roman and Persian worlds as well as the Kingdom of Aksum across the Red Sea. During its later centuries, the kingdom adopted Judaism as the religion of the royal court, leading to religious conflicts with neighboring Christian powers.
