A senior officer in the imperial guard, Jovian was proclaimed emperor by the army. Facing a dire military situation deep in enemy territory, he quickly negotiated a controversial peace treaty with the Persians, surrendering key territories to secure the army’s safe withdrawal. A Christian, he restored imperial support for Christianity after Julian’s pagan revival. Jovian’s reign was brief; he died suddenly in early 364 CE, possibly from accidental poisoning or suffocation, while en route to Constantinople.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"NumisMall.com","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":51206892912955,"sku":"x11694-77357","price":18.95,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0447\/1750\/6710\/files\/w77357.jpg?v=1777489695","url":"https:\/\/www.numismall.com\/products\/follis-of-jovian-363-364-ad-sirmium-mint-roman-empire","provider":"NumisMall","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
